Lucy Morgan was a longtime friend of the First Amendment Foundation. She was a fearless reporter and a firm advocate for the people’s right to know. She championed several First Amendment victories and was often hailed as a mentor for other women in the newsroom. Her exposure ofcorruption within the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office in 1985 won the Pulitzer Prize, which continues to inspire investigative journalists across state lines. In 2017, to honor her dedication to Open Government reporting, the First Amendment Foundation created the Lucy Morgan Award for Open Government Reporting to illustrate further the power of using public records to stop corruption and to hold public officials accountable. Lucy was loved and respected throughout the state, she will be missed.
