The area’s economic development agency is working on 13 active confidential projects that, if successful, could inject millions into the local economy and create scores of permanent jobs.
Each project is given a pseudonym and details are kept quiet until the confidentiality portion of the process is complete.
For example, Project Amazon was recently closed after Tallahassee failed to land the second headquarters for e-commerce giant Amazon. The active local projects are in various industries, including agriculture, light manufacturing, life sciences, medical services and business and professional services.
“We have a lot of active projects right now,” said Cristina Paredes, the Office of Economic Vitality’s deputy director. “The hottest ones are highly premature and confidential.”
One of them is Project Fox, an expansion project for an existing Tallahassee company. It’s slated to drum up 102 jobs, including construction-related jobs, and nearly $4.8 million in total income or wages.
