Tampa Bay Times reporters received the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting. Corey G. Johnson, Rebecca Woolington, and Eli Murray were recognized for exposing the highly toxic hazards inside Florida’s only battery recycling plant. Reporters analyzed air-lead data, regulatory documents, company records, and employee medical records. The reporting forced the implementation of safety measures to protect workers and nearby residents.
The Miami Herald won a Pulitzer for Breaking News for its coverage of the the Champlain Towers condo collapse. The newsroom was recognized for “merging clear and compassionate writing with comprehensive news and accountability reporting.”
The Palm Beach Post’s Lulu Ramadan was named a finalist for the Local Reporting award for her investigation with ProPublica on dangerous air quality during Florida’s sugar cane harvest season.
