Prosecutors on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant for Martin County Commissioner Sarah Heard.
The charge — failure of a public official to respond to a public-records request — relates to the county’s long-running civil suit with Lake Point rock quarry and allegations that Heard destroyed or failed to produce emails pertinent to the case.
Heard’s first appearance is scheduled for 2 p.m. before Circuit Judge Curtis L. Disque in the Martin County Courthouse.
Failure to respond to a records request is a noncriminal infraction punishable by a fine up to $500, according to the Florida First Amendment Foundation.
Law-enforcement officials on Sept. 20 served a search warrant at the Martin County Administration Building, seeking copies of emails from Heard’s personal account, according to court documents.
Heard previously has denied all wrongdoing. [READ MORE]
