State Sen. Joe Gruters received one of the highest grades in the state based on his support for government transparency
A secret contract between Miami musician Pitbull and Florida’s tourism marketing agency prompted legislation that is earning state Sen. Joe Gruters plaudits as an advocate for open government.
Gruters’ push to limit the ability of government agencies such as Visit Florida to shield contract information by invoking trade secret protections earned him one of the highest grades in the state on the Florida Society of News Editors annual Sunshine State Scorecard.
The Sunshine Scorecard grades lawmakers on their approach to open government issues, giving high marks to those who work to make government records available to the public and promote open meeting requirements, and low marks to those who seek to erode such provisions.
