Efforts to expel a Palm Beach County GOP executive committee member failed, and hard feelings remain.
Before Palm Beach County Republicans confronted former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum on Sunday, they had sought to expel one of their own members over his outspokenness.
The Palm Beach County Republican Executive Committee had accused member Tom Vaughn, 64, of regularly using profanities to describe party leadership in emails and texts, and over-the-top criticism of far-right GOP congressional candidate Laura Loomer. Vaughn fired back that those on the executive committee trying to remove him were “chameleons” trying to silence him.
In the end, Vaughn survived last Thursday’s vote by the 200-plus executive committee because his foes failed to achieve the necessary two-thirds majority. But it’s clear hard feelings remain.
