Collier commissioners wisely declined this week to adopt a proposed ordinance that would have made it a crime for you to knowingly hire a contractor not licensed to work in the county.
Unlicensed contracting already is against the law for the person doing the work. Commissioner Bill McDaniel brought forward an extension of that law to also make you a guilty party for hiring someone to do a job if that worker isn’t licensed.

Commissioners identified enforcement problems it would create and other flaws in the proposed ordinance.
