Today marks the end of a celebration of public access to government information.
Sunshine Week has been celebrated every March since 2005, due mainly to the work of the American Society of Newspaper Editors. But the participants are board-based and include schools, libraries, online and broadcast media, nonprofits such as our own League of Women Voters … and you. If you read the sunshine laws, they weren’t established to give newspapers better access to governments, it specifically empowers the public — that’s you.
