Newspaper wins eight first places in the Society of Professional Journalists Sunshine State Awards.

The Herald-Tribune won 22 awards, including eight in first place, from the Society of Professional Journalists’ Sunshine State Awards.
The newspaper’s “Bias on the Bench” series — a project by Emily Le Coz, Josh Salman and Elizabeth Johnson that found judges throughout Florida sentence black defendants to harsher punishments than whites charged with the same crimes under similar circumstances — took home the Gene Miller Award for Investigative Reporting and the First Amendment Foundation Freedom of Information Award.
