The first bill to pass a legislative committee in advance of the 2016 legislative session would allow guns in the class room. It’s a workplace issue for professors who say they don’t want their students packing glocks in their backpacks. But a bill exposing lawmakers to the same workplace environment as professors — an armed audience — is at a standstill. It has yet to be scheduled for a hearing.
HB 4001 removes a prohibition barring concealed weapon permit holders from carrying a firearm onto college and university campuses. It was approved by the House Criminal Justice Committee Sept. 16, had its final committee stop earlier this month and is ready for the House floor when lawmakers start the 2016 Legislative session in January.
