TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) — Nearly 20 years after the controversial presidential election recount of 2000, the attorneys who represented Al Gore and George W. Bush met again in Tallahassee.
Thursday evening, The First Amendment Foundation hosted a discussion between David Boies and Barry Richard.
The duo relived what it was like in the 36 days following the election. They also say last November’s recount in Florida brings back familiar memories.
Bush attorney Barry Richard said, “My opinion was that after 18 years, we had not fixed anything in Florida.”
Gore attorney David Boies added, “Florida is one of those states were they’ve got close elections, and when you have close elections, you are going to have recounts.”
It was clear during the discussion that there are no hard feelings form the past, with the former opponents sitting side by side and speaking highly of one another.
